Must Haves for Mental and Spiritual Wellness
Hey SIS, have you told yourself you love you lately?
I (obviously) love physical fitness: Working out, cooking healthy food, the whole thing. Something I don’t think is talked about enough, though, is other dimensions of health.
It’s tough to wake up for an early morning workout with the physical and mental heaviness of depression.
It’s hard to carve out time to cook healthy meals when you don’t feel worthy of care.
It’s hard to love your body at any size after a lifetime of only accepting “thin” as the acceptable one.
Just when you do make progress toward being kinder and more accepting toward yourself, your targeted ads catch on that you’re interested in “improvement.” Cue all the weight loss ads. Ugh.
January is a ROUGH month for crappy weight loss messaging. Marketing plays on your insecurities to make you feel like you NEED a product to fill a space in your life. Sometimes marketing messages even CREATES that space you didn’t know existed.
Listen, SIS. You’re a whole person. Your whole self needs care.
You’re not going to hear me tell you to just choose happy. I want happiness for you! But it’s not a switch to flip or a choice to make. It starts with kindness and love for you exactly as you already are.
So, have you told yourself that you love you?
Give it a try. It will probably feel weird. It will take some practice before you believe yourself every time.
Need some reminders? I put together a collection of phone screensavers to remind you of just how awesome you are. The messages focus on kindness and might be just the little thing you need to feel throughout the day.
I think they’re adorable and it might be hard to pick a favorite. Why not bookmark them and flip through when you need a little pick me up?
Hey. Be kind to yourself.
