Sports Bra Shopping Guide
Tell me if you’ve been here before:
You were halfway through your morning run when you felt a snap. Immediately, you could tell that your sports bra strap had broken.
Panicked, you slowed down and stopped, looking around to see if anyone noticed. The street you were on was mostly empty, with just a few other runners and an elderly couple with their dog nearby.
Determined not to let this ruin your workout, you quickly tied the strap into a knot and resumed your run, albeit at a slower pace. You couldn't help but laugh at the situation.
By the end of your run, you felt triumphant. You had faced an unexpected challenge and kept going. With a grin, you headed home, already planning to buy a new, more durable sports bra.
When purchasing a sports bra, ladies, we need to consider several key aspects to ensure not just that these bras last for us and the girl, but to ensure proper fit, support, and comfort.
Level of Impact: Low-impact bras are suitable for activities like yoga and walking, while high-impact bras are designed for running, aerobics, and other high-intensity workouts.
Size and Fit: Take accurate measurements of your band size and cup size, and refer to the manufacturer’s sizing chart to find the right size. Ensure the band fits snugly around your ribcage without riding up, and the cups provide full coverage and encapsulation of each breast.
Strap Design: Look for sports bras with wide, adjustable straps that distribute weight evenly and provide additional support. Racerback or crisscross strap designs can help prevent straps from slipping off the shoulders during movement.
Compression vs. Encapsulation: Compression sports bras compress the breasts against the chest wall to minimize movement, while encapsulation bras have separate cups to individually support each breast. Choose the style that best suits your preferences and comfort needs, or opt for a combination of compression and encapsulation for maximum support!
Front closures, back closures, or pullover styles?Which do you prefer? Choose the closure type that is easiest for you to put on and take off, and ensure the closure provides a secure and comfortable fit.
